Kids By Breanna Battaglia / July 27, 2017 An 8-year-old boy in California started a GoFundMe account to raise money so his best friend since kindergarten could buy a new wheelchair. Kamden Houshan, 8, was born with a tumor in his spine and requires a wheelchair to get around. In order for the boy to live, his tumor has to be surgically removed, which will result in paralysis from the waist down. Recently, Houshan was able to test out an updated wheelchair that would allow for greater mobility after his surgery. His best pal, Paul Burnett, noticed that this newer model greatly improved his independence. “It was very emotional. He [Paul] knows that Kamden could not go to the bathroom [with the old wheelchair]. He’s seen him fall a few times,” Burnett’s mother, Jenny, told local Fox News. After seeing a YouTube video about GoFundMe, Burnett requested that one was set up for his friend. “If he gets a new wheelchair he’s going to be more comfortable and he’ll do more things on his own,” Burnett wrote on his crowdfunding page. “I think he would go super fast if he got this new chair and we can play more.” Almost a month after the page was created, they’ve raised over $5,500, which exceeds their original $3,000 goal. Houshan will receive his brand-new wheelchair in August. Although his postoperative recovery is two months, Burnett is looking forward to doing all of their favorite activities soon—going to the park, eating Happy Meals and playing superheroes at recess.
